We believe that every woman and girl deserves to thrive.

Our Story

In 2017, WWA began as a small grassroots group supporting women from African backgrounds in Australia. Initially, our initiatives aimed to reduce social isolation through monthly meetups, gardening, computer classes and community events. These programs created safe spaces for connection, learning and empowerment.

As we grew, we recognised that the barriers, challenges and cultural values experienced by CALD women are shared across communities. This understanding led us to expand our mission, supporting a broader community of CALD women and girls, and ensuring they have access to the resources, opportunities and advocacy they need to thrive.

By supporting women and girls from youth to adulthood, we empower them to navigate and overcome systemic challenges.

Today, we continue to foster inclusive environments where women and girls are supported.

What We Do

Our work is aligned with the three pillars of the NSW Women's Strategy 2023-26, which focus on economic opportunity, health and wellbeing, and participation and empowerment.

Our programs address the needs of CALD women and girls and aim to build capacity and foster confidence, leadership and resilience.

We proudly serve a diverse community of women and girls from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds including refugees. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.

Our volunteers are the heart of WWA, driving our programs with passion, commitment and lived experience. They ensure our initiatives are accessible, relevant and impactful.

Our team, including our dedicated volunteer board members, guides WWA’s growth and strategic direction. The board provides essential oversight, governance and expertise, ensuring we stay true to our mission.

Partnerships & collaborations

It truly takes a village. We believe collaboration strengthens our impact. Partnering with local organisations, businesses, and community leaders expands our reach and enhances our programs.

These partnerships amplify resources and expertise, from delivering settlement support to advocating for women's rights. Together, we create a more inclusive, supportive and equitable society for CALD women and girls.

Our approach

We take a community-led and culturally responsive approach to our initiatives to ensure meaningful impact. We believe the women and girls we serve should be at the centre of decision-making; shaping programs that address systemic barriers while fostering resilience and empowerment.

We prioritise culturally sensitive support to create safe spaces where women and girls can share their stories, access resources and grow their skills. Through our approach, we promote participation, self-advocacy, confidence and long-term empowerment.

Every action makes a difference.
